'Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff' DVD Hits Shelves Tomorrow

Released via COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment, the "COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of David Hasselhoff" DVD arrives in stores nationwide on Tuesday, January 11 and will also be available at http://shop.comedycentral.com.The "COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of David Hasselhoff" DVD bonus materials feature over 25 additional minutes of extra footage, including a behind-the-scenes feature, celebrity red carpet interviews, the Hoff's post-Roast reaction and Roaster wrap-ups.EmmyTM-nominated "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane heads the festivities as the evening's Roast Master. Roasters include Pamela Anderson, Whitney Cummings, Greg Giraldo, Gilbert Gottfried, George Hamilton, Hulk Hogan, Lisa Lampanelli, Jeffrey Ross and Jerry Springer.The "COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of David Hasselhoff" is executive produced by Joel Gallen from Tenth Planet Productions, who also executive produced and directed the "COMEDY CENTRAL Roasts" of Joan Rivers, Larry The Cable Guy, Bob Saget and Flavor-Flav, as well as the EmmyTM-nominated "COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of William Shatner" and the "COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of Pamela Anderson." Larry Thompson also serves as executive producer and previously held this title on the "COMEDY CENTRAL Roasts" of Joan Rivers and William Shatner. Elizabeth Porter serves as the executive in charge for the network.

Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff Coming to DVD

David Hasselhoff at the RoastComedy Central's Roast of David Hasselhoff aired back on August 15, and is now coming to DVD with four featurettes including behind the scenes! The DVD will come out January 11, 2011.Comedy Central’s Roast of the Hoff includes words from Baywatch co-star Pamela Anderson, fellow tanned wonder George Hamilton, comedian Gilbert Gottfried, wrestler-turned-everyman Hulk Hogan,Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane (who was the Roast Master), comedienne Lisa Lampanelli, talk show/circus host Jerry Springer and more. The show aired on Comedy Central on Aug. 15.According to DiscDish, as well as the 71-minute TV show, the Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff DVD will include four featurettes:

  • A behind-the-scenes featurette
  • Red carpet interviews
  • The Hoff’s post-roast reaction
  • Roasters wrap-up.

The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff was the highest rated cable show on Sunday night with an astounding 3.5 million viewers giving a 2.5 rating.It also made Comedy Central's highest rated night since April 2009.The Roast was also the top show in all of TV among males 18-34, the network said Tuesday.THR says overall, the Hoff special was Comedy Central's fifth most-watched roast ever among total viewers - and the 18-49 audience. The ranking of the network's top-rated roasts is led by one for Jeff Foxworthy, followed by Pamela Anderson, Larry The Cable Guy and Flavor Flav, according to a spokeswoman.Here are a few excerpts from other media outlets reviewing the Roast.

Said Elizabeth Porter, Comedy Central's senior vice president for talent and specials: "David was game, thoughtful, strategic, hilarious and open. He can say, 'I've fallen down and messed up. And you know what? I'm going to deal with it in a humorous way. I'm going to deal with the elephant in the room, drag it out, shoot it and then it's done.'"In preparations leading to the roast, Hasselhoff was very much in the loop, and producers made it a priority to make him feel comfortable in being part of the joke. He engaged in writers' meetings for his rebuttal at the end of the roast and was involved in jokey promos. (In one, he sang "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?") Instead of being a beating, it was clear that the roast was more akin to a tribute."I fell in love with David Hasselhoff," Porter said. "I was personally invested in what he was going to hear, what he was going to go through. I was very nervous for him. But through it all, he was fine."

Producers say the Hasselhoff roast, which follows comedic skewerings of Anderson, Flavor Flav, William Shatner and Bob Saget, is perhaps the most lavish and meticulously produced yet.At the after-party, Hasselhoff, who just finished filming "Hop" with Russell Brand and is currently shooting a reality show with his daughters for A&E, was in the mood to celebrate."It's humbling to be here, and I'm happy to be sober," he said, munching on a hamburger. "It wasn't so brutal. I'm glad to be where I am in life, with my career and my family. I'm very honored."

They preferred to pick on his obsessive drinking, the video of him slurring his words while eating a cheeseburger, his bad acting and horrible singing.From roast master Seth MacFarlane's seat, the roast went well for Hasselhoff."He seemed to be loving every minute of it," MacFarlane said.

David Hasselhoff Roast After Party

Sue from Knight Rider Online took this video of the David Hasselhoff Roast After Party that we went to on Sunday night. You'll see Roastmaster Seth do his impression of KITT, David from afar in the VIP party, and some Baywatch lifeguard models. Towards the end of the video, Sue and I were invited in to the VIP party by the lovely Hayley Hasselhoff, and caught up with David. I am just off camera, and the last person he shook hands with, saying "Hey, how are you doing? Wie gehts gut? Nice to see you." It was a great time and I really appreciate his kindness.

Comedy Central emailed me a few short clips from the Roast. This first clip is Seth Macfarlane poking fun at Pamela Anderson, and it brings out his inner Stewie. Lisa Lampanelli then takes her shots at the Hoff, followed by Pam Anderson focusing on Hulk Hogan. Jeff Ross comes out in a leather jacket and speedos, and rips on Seth MacFarlane, before Greg Giraldo goes after him again. Whitney Cummings goes after Lisa Lampanelli before Jerry Springer finally comes out and takes a few shots at the Hoff. Enjoy!*Remember: Some strong language is used, but it's all bleeped.

Comedy Central announced the Roast Master for David Hasselhoff today, along with announcing the rest of the roasters that will be in attendance.

The “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of David Hasselhoff” tapes at Sony Studios in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 1. The “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast of David Hasselhoff” airs on Sunday, August 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.This year’s Roasters include Pamela Anderson, Whitney Cummings, Greg Giraldo, George Hamilton, Hulk Hogan, Lisa Lampanelli, Jeffrey Ross and Jerry Springer. David Hasselhoff just posted the first tease video for Comedy Central's Roast coming this August. 

For anyone not aware of what a Roast is, they've been doing them for decades at the Friar's club in New York and even Dean Martin used to host them on television.
They can be pretty lewd and rude, but by the end of the night, after everyone gets a shot in, the guest of honor is informed of how much they mean to everyone at the event.
It's a humbling experience to say the least. I can't wait for my turn!
